Cincinnati, OH – The Ghost Empire Collective, a group of 7 local artists who show artwork together, will be hosting their largest event to date, “The Art of War” on June 1st at The Avenue in Covington, KY. It will pit the GEC artists against each other in live art tournament that is winner takes all for the crown of best quick sketch artist in the group.
The competition will include these Ghost Empire artists: painter/illustrator Mike Maydak, painter/website designer Kurt Einhaus, illustrator/poster designer Jaimie Filer, painter/illustrator Rob Meyer, photographer/visual artist Snotty RLE, videographer/visual artist Justin K. Hite, and visual artist/Ghost Empire founder Anthony “Tank” Mansfield.
“This is a big night for us, as to my knowledge nothing like this has ever happened in the Tri-State area, and we are always excited to break new ground,” says Mansfield.
The event can best be described as a freestyle rap battle meets Draw Something. The tournament will feature one-on-one battles between the GEC members. An MC will pull a card from a hat with a word on it, which the artist will have never seen before. The artists will then have 10 minutes to draw the best, most imaginative piece of art for that word live on stage. The crowd will then judge whose piece is better via a round of applause. Win, you stay in, lose, you go home; it’s that simple.
“When I first formed the Ghost Empire Collective back in the fall of 2011, this was one of the first ideas that came up,” said Mansfield. “Every member in this group was handpicked because of their work ethic and art talent, and it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that we are all very competitive. The trash talk has been pretty intense leading into this show.”
The night will also feature music by DJ Gerald and Ria the Redliner. “We are very excited to have Ria the Redliner and DJ Gerald DJing for us, as we feel they are going to help add an extra layer of emotion and entertainment to the event,” said Mansfield. “And of course we are very excited to be working with The Avenue and their staff. It’s the perfect venue for what we are going to do.”
